Employing a descriptive qualitative approach, data were collected through classroom observation, in-depth interviews, and document analysis. The findings indicate that gamification, particularly via the Quizizz application, significantly enhances students learning motivation. Game elements such as points, levels, and competition create a more enjoyable, interactive, and challenging learning environment. Students become more enthusiastic, participative, and engaged in the learning process. However, the study also identified several challenges, including limited digital competence among teachers, cultural resistance to technological innovation within pesantren, and inadequate infrastructure. The study implies the importance of teacher training and infrastructural support for sustainable gamification practices. The originality of this study lies in its specific context, namely the integration of gamification in Fiqh instruction within a modern Salafi Islamic boarding school. It contributes to the emerging body of research on Islamic education and technology integration and provides a basis for future comparative and quantitative studies.
Salwa Minna Khairunnisa, M. A descriptive qualitative approach was employed, using data collection techniques such as observation, in-depth interviews, and documentation. The main informants included IRE teachers, the school principal, and students. The findings show that the strategies involved contextual lectures, active discussions, daily religious routines, and participation in socio-religious activities. Supporting factors included the school’s religious environment, teacher role modeling, and open communication between teachers and students. On the other hand, challenges included low student motivation, limited digital infrastructure, and a lack of parental support at home. The implemented strategies positively impacted students’ religious awareness in terms of spirituality, ethics, and social responsibility. Future studies could elaborate on concrete instructional practices, such as integrating critical media literacy or contectual discussions, to demonstrate how IRE strategies directly addres the challenges posed by social media and global culture. This study is limited to a single school and does not quantitatively measure students’ religious consciousness. The study implies the importance of integrative and contextual approaches in Islamic Religious Education. Its originality lies in its focus on rural-based Muhammadiyah madrasahs and their instructional strategies in shaping religious character. This finding offers a new contribution to the development of islamic religious education studies, particularly in understanding how rural environments can serve as a significant factor in shaping students’ religious awareness and practices.
Rindi Amelyna Arrum Sofiatin, M. Unlike previous studies that tend to emphasize institutional structures, curricula, or educational modernization in a descriptive manner, this research offers originality by analyzing Al-Azhar’s education as the product of a dialectical interaction between political power, social structures, and Islamic scholarly authority. The study employs a qualitative research design using a historical approach, involving critical examination and analysis of relevant primary and secondary sources. The findings indicate that Al-Azhar has undergone multilayered transformations, beginning as a center of Ismaili Shi ‘a propagation during the Fatimid Dynasty, later transitioning into a Sunni educational institution under the Ayyubid rule, reaching its intellectual peak during the Mamluk era, experiencing conservative tendencies during the Ottoman period, and eventually entering a phase of modernization from the nineteenth century onwards. The main finding of this study asserts that the modernization of Al-Azhar should not be understood as a form of Westernization of Islamic education, but rather as a process of epistemological reconstruction that integrates classical Islamic scholarly heritage (turāth) with the spirit of renewal (tajdīd). This study proposes an adaptive, tradition-based transformation paradigm as a model of Islamic education that remains relevant and contextual in responding to the challenges of modernity and globalization.
Nurul Habibah Arfizeah, Vina Novita, Ellya Roza Copyright (c) 2025 Nurul Habibah Arfizeah, Vina Novita, Ellya Roza https://ejournal.staimta.ac.id/index.php/edukasi/article/view/850 Wed, 31 Dec 2025 00:00:00 +0000 Al-Ghazali’s Holistic Philosophy of Education: Relevance and Reconstruction of Contemporary Islamic Educational Paradigms https://ejournal.staimta.ac.id/index.php/edukasi/article/view/853
This study explores Al-Ghazali’s educational philosophy and its relevance for reconstructing contemporary Islamic education in response to modern moral, intellectual, and spiritual challenges. Contemporary Islamic education increasingly emphasizes cognitive achievement and academic performance while neglecting ethical formation and spiritual development. Al-Ghazali offers a holistic and humanistic educational paradigm that integrates knowledge (ilm), faith (īmān), and action (amal) as the foundation of moral integrity and spiritual maturity. His ideas remain relevant in addressing educational crises characterized by materialism, moral decline, and fragmented values. This research employs a qualitative library research method by analyzing Al-Ghazali’s principal works, Ihya’ Ulum al-Din and Ayyuha al-Walad, alongside classical and contemporary scholarly literature. Data was examined using content analysis and a hermeneutical approach to uncover the philosophical foundations of Al-Ghazali’s educational thought and its applicability to modern educational contexts. Interpretive validity was strengthened through triangulation by comparing Al-Ghazali’s views with those of other Islamic philosophers, including Ibn Sina and Al-Farabi. The findings indicate that Al-Ghazali conceives education as a sacred process of soul purification (tazkiyat al-nafs) aimed at attaining ultimate happiness (sa‘ādah) through closeness to God (taqarrub ilallah). Education prioritizes the cultivation of noble character (akhlaq al-karīmah) rather than material success. Teachers are viewed as moral exemplars and spiritual mentors, while students are regarded as ethical agents who must cultivate sincerity, humility, and discipline in learning. Al-Ghazali’s classification of knowledge into fardhu ‘ain and fardhu kifayah provides a balanced framework for integrating religious and worldly sciences. This study concludes that Al-Ghazali’s educational philosophy remains a transformative and value-based framework for contemporary Islamic education, offering a holistic model that integrates intellect, ethics, and spirituality
Sifa'ul Af'idah, Almira Zata Syarafina, Devita Hamida, Siti Sholekah, Sumarno Copyright (c) 2025 Sifa'ul Af'idah, Almira Zata Syarafina, Devita Hamida, Siti Sholekah, Sumarno https://ejournal.staimta.ac.id/index.php/edukasi/article/view/853 Wed, 31 Dec 2025 00:00:00 +0000 Implementation of the Saudi Muqarrar Curriculum in Aqidah Learning to Form the Religious Character of Students at the Imam Syafi'i Islamic Boarding School in Tulungagung https://ejournal.staimta.ac.id/index.php/edukasi/article/view/770
This study aims to analyze the implementation of the Muqarrar Saudi curriculum in Aqidah (Islamic creed) education and its contribution to shaping the religious character of students at Imam Syafi'i Islamic Boarding School, Tulungagung. The Muqarrar curriculum, based on the Middle Eastern educational system and focused on Arabic-language classical Islamic texts, is applied to strengthen a comprehensive and solid understanding of Aqidah. This research employs a descriptive qualitative method, using data collection techniques such as observation, in-depth interviews, and document analysis. The findings indicate that the curriculum's implementation is supported by competent instructors who are alumni of Islamic universities in the Middle East, an effective preparatory program (I'dad) that bridges the educational gap among students, and strong parental support. However, challenges such as diverse educational backgrounds, limited Arabic proficiency, and external environmental influences serve as obstacles that must be addressed. Nevertheless, Aqidah learning through the Muqarrar curriculum has proven effective in instilling values of faith, monotheism, and spiritual discipline, significantly shaping students' religious character.
