Abstract

Educational supervision is one of the important components in efforts to improve the quality of learning in schools. Through supervisory activities, supervisors play a strategic role in guiding, directing, and evaluating teachers’ performance in order to create an effective and professional learning process. This study aims to describe supervisors’ skills and the duties of educational supervision in the context of improving teachers’ competence. The research employed a qualitative method with a descriptive approach. The research subjects included school principals and teachers selected through purposive sampling techniques. Data collection techniques consisted of observation, in-depth interviews, and documentation. The data were analyzed through three stages: data reduction, data display, and conclusion drawing and verification. The results of the study indicate that supervisors’ skills include effective communication, managerial ability, evaluation, and continuous coaching. In addition, supervisory duties are not merely administrative in nature, but also encompass mentoring, empowerment, and the development of teachers’ professionalism through training and classroom observation. The effectiveness of supervision is strongly influenced by supervisors’ interpersonal skills, including the ability to build open communication and provide constructive feedback. However, in practice, several obstacles are still encountered, such as limited time, resources, and differences in perception. In conclusion, strong supervisory skills contribute significantly to improving the quality of learning and teachers’ competence. Effective supervision serves not only as a means of control, but also as a continuous coaching process that supports the creation of a professional learning culture in schools.
