The Impact of the Use of Documentary Films on Islamic History in Improving the Understanding of Students in Class VII SMP Muhammadiyah 1 Pare

Abstract: Islamic Cultural History Education (SKI) plays an important role in building students' Islamic character and insight. However, conventional learning methods such as lectures often leave students passive and less interested. Along with the development of technology, documentary films have emerged as an alternative learning medium that is able to present historical material visually and contextually. This study aims to analyze the impact of the use of documentary films on the understanding and participation of grade VII students of SMP Muhammadiyah 1 Pare. The research method uses a descriptive qualitative approach with observation techniques, in-depth interviews, and documentation. The results of the study show that documentaries have a significant impact on improving understanding of concepts, motivating students, and fostering interest in learning Islamic history. The supporting factors are students' high interest in visual media, the relevance of the film content to the curriculum, and the creativity of teachers in utilizing media. The obstacles faced are the limitations of multimedia facilities, limited allocation of learning time, and the need for training for teachers in choosing appropriate film materials. The recommendation of this study is the need for the procurement of supporting facilities, teacher training, and the integration of documentary films into the curriculum in a planned manner.
